Four young recruits about to be sent to Vietnam confront their prejudicial feelings toward one another when it’s learned one of them is homosexual.  This is an intense movie, shot in close quarters which help add to the tension.  It’s a thought provoking movie involving issues of sexuality, sex, race and fear.  In this movie’s case, fear of oneself.

Matthew Modine stars;  Guy Boyd, George Dzundza, David Alan Grier,Mitchell Lichtenstein, Matthew Modine, Michael Wright all give great performances.  In fact they appear to all have won the 1983 Vinice Film Festival Best Actor award.  There is no love story or gay sex in this.  It’s more about personal differences in a stressful and fearful situation, one of which being a relatively openly gay man among the 4 boys.
